At New Horizon Community Trust, our mission is to enrich the lives of our community members by providing essential funding and support. We focus on empowering local amateur sports groups, especially minority sports, and extend our dedication to youth programs, elderly support initiatives, public health projects, and cultural and arts festivals. Our commitment is to foster a vibrant, healthy, and inclusive community where everyone can thrive.
New Horizon is guided by three directors who also serve on the net proceeds committee, responsible for making grant decisions. The daily management of the Trust is handled by directors Janu Singh and Sehaj Preet.
Our Team
Janu Singh - Chairperson & Director
Janu Singh, originally from Jalandhar, Punjab, has been a member of the New Zealand community since 2009. With more than a decade of experience in gaming‑society operations, Janu brings strong capability in venue liaison, regulatory compliance, grant administration, and financial management.
Fluent in English, Hindi, and Punjabi, Janu has a deep understanding of the local Indian community. Janu holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Balkaran Singh - Director
Balkaran Singh holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Sciences and a Master’s degree in Analytics. He is currently completing a PhD in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
He has contributed to international research projects, including work on predictive models for the early prognosis of mental‑health conditions. Balkaran is committed to using data and technology to deliver positive, community‑focused outcomes.
Sehaj Preet - Director
Sehaj has served as a Director of New Horizon Community Trust since its establishment in 2024. With over a decade of hands‑on experience in the New Zealand gaming sector, she combines operational expertise with a strong commitment to the Class 4 funding model and its role in supporting communities throughout Aotearoa.
Her background includes six years as an educator overseas, strengthening her cross‑cultural communication and leadership skills. Sehaj holds a Master of Arts in Literature and a New Zealand Diploma in Business (Strategic Leadership).

Jarrod True – True Legal Limited
Jarrod True has considerable expertise in all aspects of the community gaming industry, and is New Zealand’s foremost expert on law and policy relating to class 4 gambling. Jarrod is the author of the New Zealand Gambling Law Guide.
